Nargis received her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts at the Department of Painting & Pedagogy from the Kazakh National Pedagogical University in Almaty and her Bachelor’s Degree in Tapestry & Textile Design from the Department of Applied Arts at Almaty Art College.
Her artistic practice encompasses painting, drawing, tapestry and mixed media– all connected by one single desire – to see the nature of things. On this quest she explores subjects that seem unrelated at first sight. Whether abstract, figurative or ornamental, she starts with visible lines and enters hidden realms.
In her large scale, heavily layered abstractions, flowing lines of saturated colors give birth to rough forms. In successive series, going from large scale to small, from combinations to single colors, she emphasises the unity that exists between opposites.
Going from object to space, from color to texture, from present to invisible her works transmit meanings that have no known coded alphabet. The strength of her work stems from the drive to express emotions that cannot be pinned down into words. Nargis’ works succeed where language fails.
